Hocking Hills, Ohio

This is one of my favorite spots in Ohio. Located east of Chillicothe, Hocking Hills offers a unique experience you just don’t typically find in Ohio.

The Old Man’s Cave area seems to be one of the more popular areas as it’s hard to get a photo without people in it during the fall and spring months. The main trail follows a stream that has many of the waterfalls to be found in the park (Upper and Lower Falls as well as many smaller unnamed falls).

Cedar FallsThe trail at Conkle’s Hollow runs along the floor of a gorge where the sides slowly narrow til they finally come together to a spectacular finish at the end of the trail. In the spring, there are three waterfalls to be seen at the end (two are normally dry by mid-summer). You’re not allowed to step off trail in this section of the park, so try not to be tempted to peer around rocks and corners like I sorely was (especially when I could hear a fall on the other side).

My favorite area of the park, Cedar Falls, is the largest and most majestic fall in Hocking Hills. It’s also one of the most photographed waterfalls as well. If you want to see something spectacular, come here in late winter when it’s frozen over. Pictures just don’t do it justice.
