Get Real
One my professors from college, Mark Hanavan, will be in Get Real. This show will be December 2 at 6:00pm at Pop Revolution Gallery.
There exists a duality in the contemporary usage of the phrase “Get Real”. The expression requires us to face and question reality simultaneously. This pairing of words also implies that we need to change our ideas of reality according to someone else’s standards. Working in a manner that requires a keen eye for detail and direct observation, these artists give us a unique perspective on a society that is hyper-connected through technology, social, and visual media. Although this is not overtly the subject matter with which each of the artists is working, there exists a contemporary thread that is woven throughout all of the works as they were created by artist of this time. As they observe a visual image or object in space, understanding how to duplicate it with physical media and light is just the beginning of their attempts to understand what ramifications its reality may have on their own realities in the art-making process and on themselves. In the end, what purpose do these works of art serve in the conversation between us and our visual culture?
Come out and support your local artists! Keep up to date on the facebook event page.
